Project Linus

Lately I've been looking for hobbies to keep my hands busy. I want to create something though, so my time spent on those hobbies is not time wasted.

I remember hearing about Project Linus (www.projectlinus.org) quite some time ago and thinking, "What a great idea!", but sadly I forgot all about it until I found it again just recently.

I chose childcare as my profession because I wanted to make the world, my little corner of it, just a little bit better place by making sure that the children in my care were loved. Right now life is moving slowly for me- almost no childcare-ing to be done, and lots and lots of time on my hands.

So, I thought I'd give it a go. Security is highly under appreciated, in my opinion, especially for children. So, if I can help, even just a tiny bit, I think it will feel pretty good.

I haven't been at it long, but already I'm learning that to create something by hand has a peaceful quality to it. I like it. And I hope to do it a lot more in the future.

We shall see what I end up with!

What a great project! Looks like you've got some cute fabric for it too. Is it quilted or just blocked together?

On a related note, I've been thinking about learning to knit this winter. I do know how to crochet, but I think knitting would be more useful. I haven't decided if I want to try to teach myself or take a class, or what yet. Want to join me? Maybe we could take a class together. I'll try to see what I can find out.

No, it's just blocked. I've been wanting to learn to knit this winter too- I had thought about getting a 3 dvd series to teach me, but if we found a cheap class somewhere that'd be great! :)

Check out susansyarngarden.com for the class I was thinking about taking. It's the beginning knitting class, costs $10 and meets 3 times for 2 hours each. It's downtown. The girl I talked to there said you can start anytime. Then there's lots of other followup classes if we liked that one...

Hey, great! I didn't even know that little shop was there. The classes look great too- how could you resist those prices? What works for your schedule? I'm (obviously, haha!) pretty open. :)

Looks great, Jenni. Love the materials you have picked out. Can't wait to see how it turns out!!!

p.s. If we lived a little closer, I'd be asking for your help about now. I got a job offer on Friday afternoon I think I'm going to take. Not sure I'm so excited about it, but we have some mounting debts that NEED, NEED, NEED to be paid. Ugh.

Hey, thanks Lani. :)

I understand about mounting bills- after all this infertility (ha, AND adoption!) stuff we'll be making payments till doomsday. Thank goodness for insurance, or it'd be impossible. Good luck with the job! :)
