Hello, World!

Oh, my goodness!

After two weeks of being sick (first Reg, then myself), I am finally, FINALLY, starting to feel a little like my normal self again!

Sigh...  :)

Anyway, while I work towards getting our little family back into a nice rhythm and routine around here, I wanted to pop in and share an article that I am really loving today.

"Why 'Living Simply' Isn't Simple At All" is featured today on the Frugal Granola website (one of my favorites).

So, enjoy!

P.S. WHERE did spring go?!  We're expecting a couple of inches of snow here by the middle of the week.  I'm a bit put out with that ground hog.
P.P.S.  When did so many people decide this little, silly, blog was something to be interested in?!  My goodness!  Welcome, though, if you've decided to spend your time here.  :)

Until another day- on which I hope to have caught up a bit with all we've been missing here for the last two weeks- have a happy week!

Sewing, Shop-ing, and Swimming

I am so excited!

I just this morning picked up the cutest, cutest, cutest printed PUL fabrics for making some more cloth diapers!

These fabrics are stretchy knits that have been laminated with PUL to make them waterproof, so they won't require a diaper cover (who would want to cover up that kind of cuteness?!).

I can't wait!

And, speaking of, I wanted to take a sec to let anyone interested know that, even though the Mama & Nonni Handmades shop is on vacation, I am happy, happy, happy to take custom orders.
Diapers, bibs, burp cloths, cloth wipes- I'm more than happy to sew them up for you!

The shop's vacation is only temporary- "Mama" has gone back to work full time, and "Nonni" is just still trying to get her ducks in a row.  So, we're mixing it up a little, trying to figure out who will be doing what, and how it will be getting done.  :)  We're hoping to have listings back up on Etsy this fall.

BUT, if you're interested in having something made before then, just let me know!  ;)

You can contact me for custom orders, or order inquiries, at:  Bright Beginnings Playgarden @ gmail . com (without all the pesky spaces of course).

And, as for swimming, well today will be Regan's first day at the pool!
As the heat index here is around 100 today, we're looking forward that trip this afternoon!

I'm sure I'll have many pool-baby pictures to share afterward, but for now here are some to tide the grandmas, aunts, and friends over.

Be back soon!  :)

We're Back!

And, we have been for quite a while, but with everything going on in "real" life, I haven't had (or made?) the time to pop in here and say hi. :)

We've had two baby showers in the last two weeks (Yay! We're getting a good start on what we need for babykins.), and with school starting again next week I'm back to my full time daycare schedule here at home again.

The "nesting" instinct is growing a little stronger by the day (a very frustrating thing with not having the time I'd like to devote to organization/preparation projects, or the energy- I'm starting to feel the third trimester fatigue), and I'm working hard to keep myself calm and not stress out (ha!) over the fact that we still haven't been able to get started on our room remodeling project. BUT, we are creeping closer to starting it- my wonderful hubby is, in fact, going after work today to look at windows- so it will get done (it will, it will, it will...). :)

We're now right around 7 1/2 months along- yay! I feel so unprepared for her birth, let me tell you! Excited, but slightly terrified. :) Pete says he's feeling pretty much the same way- and we try to console ourselves by telling each other that we'd make for some pretty poor parents if we weren't afraid of somehow messing it up! ;)

So, without further ado, here's the 7 month picture:
(please pardon the pained expression- that morning sun was fierce!)

Yes, the poor, poor garden. It's been a strange year for gardens here in our corner of Iowa. Lots of cool temps and lots and lots of rain. So, the weeds love it (the ever-growing belly doesn't- bending to pull weeds is not a plesant or easy task!), and the flowers, well, they're green and leafy, but the blooms are fairly minimal this year (at least, they have been in our gardens).

My mental "To Do List" is growing too- between now and when I start my several week maternity leave I'd really like to accomplish the following:

* Finish organizing the house. It's a small two bedroom, growing smaller by the day! I'm going to feel so much more peaceful once everything has a place, and everything is in it's place.

* Get the master bedroom completely remodeled, and all of our "stuff" in it. This includes all of the baby's "stuff"- at least the absolute necessities- since she'll be bunking in with us for quite a while (her room is next on the remodle list). By the time this project is done I hope to have a peaceful and pretty room to snuggle into with my brand new girl. :)

* Get all of the puppy's paperwork and "things" together for her move to her new home.
(*sniff, sniff. Yes, we're saying goodbye to our little Ceiba. She's a sweet little dog, but like I said, this house seems to be shrinking around us- and two dogs plus a baby, I do believe, would be just too much.)
Thankfully she's going to my sister and her hubby, so she's not really leaving us, just becoming a farther-away part of our family.

* READ, READ, READ! Pete and I have two main books that we're trying to get through before the baby's born- "Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way" and "Birth Outside the Box" in order to prepare ourselves for the labor, birth, and those first few weeks with a brand new baby.

Mixed in with all of this are several more days of Preschool Playgroup that I'll be teaching here at home, as well as daycare Monday through Friday, working on designs and products for Mama and Nonni, and the (sometimes never ending) task of getting the produce out of the garden as it ripens and doing... something... with it.

So, like I said, I'm doing my best NOT to panic! ;) Somehow, it will all come together, and in the end the things that may end up falling to the wayside will end up being the things that really, truly, didn't matter that much in the first place.

Here's to being productive these next 8 or 10 weeks! :)

Checking In

Hi all.

Thought I'd just pop in this morning to let you know I'm still around. ;)

These last couple of weeks have been a bit overwhelming-
on the 4th we lost the young husband of one of our good friends to cancer,
and his funeral was last week.
It was a long and emotion filled trip, but we're so very glad we made it.

Then on Saturday Pete's grandma passed away, and her funeral is this week.

So, it's been an emotion-filled time for us around here since July 4th,
and the posting (not that it was terribly regular to begin with this summer!)
has gone by the way-side.

But, life does go on- which is both a comfort and a struggle at times-
and I hope to be back again on a regular basis soon to update you
(anyone who does read this little 'ol blog) ;)
on the happenings of the summer, the baby's progress, and my new business venture.

So, until then, happy days to you! :)

Still Here. (Technically.)

Just an update to let those of you wondering know that, yes, I'm still alive.
I'm still here, just feeling under the weather these days.
Hopefully I'll be back soon with miscellaneous pictures and updates on life.
Until then, here's to hoping you'll see lots more spring days, like we are today-
sunny and 65.
Finally.

Hello?...Hello?...Testing...1,2,3...

Sorry for the days-long absence.

Not a lot is happening for us these days, and it's hard to feel "inspired" to write anything.

Mom and I are still working on the "business plan" for the shop, and I'm working on cutting and putting together some of the blocks, bibs, napkins, and placemats we'll be starting off with.

We have tons of ideas of items to make and sell in our shop, but we're starting off slow so as not to bite off more than we can chew (so-to-speak).

Our next big "project" to work on designing and making a pattern for is a cloth-diapering friendly diaper bag. Nikki has had some great ideas to get us started, and so the ideas are flowing. :)

I'm also still trying to get my Preschool Playgroup going. I've had some inquiries, but so far I only have one child enrolled. Hopefully it will work out- the income is definitely needed right now, and it seems that the only childcare calls I get are for families with 3 or more children in need of care (which don't seem to end up working out when they realize how much that would cost- yikes!), or for babies or little ones under 2 years old (my two families both had babies in December, and we could wind up with our baby any day, so my "under 2" spots are full!) So, we'll see what works out.

Pete left on Monday for a trip for work in Michigan. Twelve hour drive- yuck.

He's hoping to be home again by Monday of next week. Although he's said he might only get to be home for about a week before they send him back again.

But, don't complain, right? :)

Really, we're lucky- he has great job security right now, and we'll still manage to make the ends meet (though they won't be over lapping by any means!) even if my little business ventures don't pan out. :D

"Stay on the sunny side, the sunny side of life"...right? ;)

Feeling Good

Feelings are much like waves, we can't stop them from coming but we can choose
which one to surf.

Jonatan Martensson

I just thought that was a nice thought to start my day today.

Hope you're feeling well today, and happy.

Welcome to our Blog!

Hello All!

Some of our family & friends are far enough away that we don't get to see them much, and (especially with our little one being *hopefully* adopted soon!) we want to keep in touch. So, we've decided to "blog" it for ya! Go ahead and bookmark us, so you can visit often.

Hope you enjoy! :)

Love,
Jenni & Pete
